System Requirements for Video Streaming

Video Streaming uses Microsoft's Windows Media Player. Listed below are the most common players and the system requirements for each version. For best performance, download the latest version that complies with your computer system.

The following describes Microsoft® Windows Media™ Player and QuickTime system requirements


Windows Media Player 7.1 System Requirements for Windows 98, Windows 98 Second Edition, Windows 2000, and Windows Millennium Edition

Minimum
Microsoft Windows® 98, Windows 98 Second Edition, Windows 2000, or Windows Millennium Edition; Pentium 166 megahertz (MHz) processor; 32 MB RAM; 16-bit sound card; and 256-color video card.

Recommended
Windows 98, Windows 98 Second Edition, Windows 2000, or Windows Millennium Edition; Pentium or AMD Athlon K6 266 MHz processor or faster; 64 MB RAM; and 24-bit true color video card.

Windows Media Player 6.4 for 95 and Windows NT 4 (x86) System Requirements

Minimum
Pentium 90 MHz processor; 16 MB RAM § 16-color display card; 16-bit sound card; Windows 95 (audio, illustrated audio, and some video) Recommended; Pentium 120 MHz processor or faster § 32 MB or more of RAM; 256-color display card or better; Windows 95, and Windows NT® Server or Workstation 4.0 with Service Pack 3 (audio, illustrated audio, and video)

Recommended
Pentium 120 MHz processor or faster § 32 MB or more of RAM; 256-color display card or better § 28.8-Kbps or faster modem or Ethernet card; Windows 95, Windows NT® Server or Workstation 4.0 with Service Pack 3 (audio, illustrated audio, and video)

Windows Media Player 7.1 for Mac (OS 8.1 to 9.x) System Requirements

Minimum
Apple Mac OS 8.1 or later (Mac OS 8.6 or later recommended); PowerPC 603e 180 MHz or higher processor; 32 megabytes (MB) or higher of RAM with 15 MB assigned to the Player; Virtual Memory turned on; 10 MB of free hard disk space; Monitor color depth of 256 colors (Millions of colors recommended); and Microsoft Internet Explorer 4.0.1 or later (Microsoft Internet Explorer 5 or later recommended), Netscape Navigator 4.0 or later, or Netscape Communicator 4.0 or later.

Remember to follow download instructions. If you have previous versions of Windows Media Player installed you will need to uninstall them prior to the installation of WMP

Issue using multiple versions of a Web browser
The Windows Media plug-in must be installed in every browser that you want to use to play Windows Media-based content that is embedded in Web pages. When installing Windows Media Player, you may be prompted to choose the browser version you want to install the Windows Media plug-in with. If you want to install the plug-in for more than one version listed, select a version of the browser, run the installation program again, and then select another version of the browser.

Windows Media Player for Solaris 6.3 System Requirements

Minimum
Solaris 2.5.1 or later (English or Western European character sets and operating systems only); Sun4m 110 MHz processor or faster; Sound card and speakers or headphones; and Microsoft Internet Explorer 4 or later, or Netscape Navigator 4.04 or later.

Windows Media Player Plug-in for Netscape Navigator

If you are using a Microsoft® Windows OS with Windows Media Player 6.4 and use Netscape Navigator 3 or later as your browser, you must install the plug-in to use Windows Media Player 6.4.

Or if you are using Netscape as your default browser on your Windows OS system, and are creating Web pages with the embedded Windows Media Player 6.4 using the EMBED tag, you must also install the plug-in.

Important: Be sure to install the plug-in AFTER you install Netscape Navigator AND the Player. If you install Netscape Navigator before you install Windows Media Player 6.4 (for example, if you reformatted your system and are reinstalling your software), you will not need the plug-in.

* A PowerPC processor-based Macintosh computer.
* At least 32MB of RAM
* Mac OS 7.5.5 or later
